Washington, DC – Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) on May 24 announced that he secured $637,195 in federal funding for Carteret in the Appropriations Subcommittee on Homeland Security spending bill for Fiscal Year 2024. The House is expected to vote on the underlying legislation in the coming months.

Carteret will use the funding to renovate and upgrade its emergency response operations with new technology, improving the Borough’s ability to direct and control operations during an emergency. The funding will help the Borough relocate to a newer, larger facility that will include a garage area for vehicles, sufficient storage for emergency supplies such as food and bottled water, and proper space for generators and emergency communications equipment. The building also includes a conference room to serve as a gathering and coordination space for all emergency department heads and Borough leaders during emergency events and a call and dispatch center.

“I’m proud to announce on May 24 that I’ve secured federal funding for Carteret to upgrade the technology the Borough uses to respond to emergencies. First responders are critical to our community’s safety and health, and this funding will ensure that they can respond quickly and efficiently to emergencies,” said Pallone. “I’m looking forward to seeing this project move through the legislative process.”

“This funding will go a long way in updating and modernizing our emergency preparedness and response to critical situations. As an urban costal community that’s a stone’s throw away from New York City, preparedness is key to preventing, mitigating, and recovering from natural and manmade disasters,” said Mayor Dan Reiman. “We applaud Congressman Pallone’s efforts to secure these much-needed funds toward this project.”
