Members of law enforcement in Monmouth County are intensifying efforts to prevent drunk driving during the holiday season. Sheriff Shaun Golden is encouraging residents to "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over."

"We want everyone to have a happy and safe holiday season. As a result, law enforcement is cracking down and on the lookout for impaired drivers. Therefore, if you are going to drink, don’t drive," said Sheriff Shaun Golden. "Patrols are being increased and sobriety checks are set up throughout Monmouth County where motorists will be stopped in an effort to maintain the utmost of safety."

The nationwide "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over" campaign aims to raise awareness about the dangers of impaired driving through enforcement and education. The campaign runs from December through January 1.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) most recent data, more than 4,500 people were killed nationwide in alcohol-impaired-driving crashes during December from 2017 through 2021. In December 2021 alone, 1,013 people died in such crashes.

"Any fatality or crash on our roads is one too many," said Sheriff Golden. "Enforcing the law and educating the public about the dangers of drinking and driving raises awareness and helps keep our roadways safer."

The Monmouth County Sheriff's Office urges everyone to practice and share important safety tips to avoid endangering themselves or others.
