Today, we are wishing a fond farewell and happy retirement to a detective who made a lasting mark on the Prosecutor’s Office in the seven years we were fortunate enough to have her with us: Beata Narath.
Detective Narath joined MCPO in January 2016 and hit the ground running, first as a member of the Crime Scene Unit. While in the Crime Scene Unit, she served as the lead Forensic Detective in 10 homicide investigations and handled more than 200 cases in all. She also completed the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Unmanned Aircraft System Course, becoming a licensed drone operator for MCPO.
Arguably most notable among her cases was one of the most high-profile crimes in Monmouth County history, which took place minutes before midnight on New Year’s Eve in 2017. That is when then-16-year-old Scott Kologi fatally shot his parents, his sister, and his grandfather’s companion at their Long Branch home. Detective Narath led the forensic side of a sprawling investigation involving voluminous quantities of ballistic, biological, electronic, and physical evidence. She then testified at length during the approximately two-week trial that concluded last February when Kologi was convicted on all charges. He was later sentenced to 150 years in state prison. For those efforts, earlier this month she was named the recipient of the 2023 New Jersey Women in Law Enforcement Distinguished Service Award.
Detective Narath’s career in law enforcement began 17 years ago, when she joined the New Jersey Department of Corrections (DOC) as a Corrections Officer. In 2008, she became investigator for the DOC Special Investigations Division; in this capacity she also served as a Firearms, Physical Conditioning, and Classroom Instructor for both DOC and the New Jersey Division of Criminal Justice (DCJ).
On behalf of a grateful Office, we wish our very best to Detective Narath as she explores the next chapter in her life, and again sincerely thank her for her stellar service to the people of Monmouth County.
