Without critical funds from Impact 100 Jersey Coast, our work with youth during Mental Health Awareness Month would not have been possible

Monmouth Arts issued the following announcement.

Without critical funds from Impact 100 Jersey Coast, our work with youth during Mental Health Awareness Month would not have been possible. As we’ve posted throughout May, our Creative Expressions team of teaching artists and mental health professionals spent time at the Red Bank Boys & Girls Club with visual arts activities designed to lower stress levels and allow children to express themselves. Mental Health Awareness Month may be ending today, but our efforts will not. Thanks to Impact 100 Jersey Coast, this program will continue this summer (and beyond) at sites throughout Monmouth County.

Follow our progress as we expand our programming to include dance, movement, and music. And enjoy a glimpse of the healing nature of drumming that we shared with our Red Bank group, who experienced some powerful meditative moments – keeping the pulse of a rhythm, focusing on breath and heartbeat, and relaxing and grounding their bodies. We recently invited April Centrone to visit. As a multi-instrumentalist, youth educator, and music therapist, April has worked closely with inner-city schools throughout NYC, led workshops at Rohingya refugee youth centers and safe houses for young Malaysian women, and has held Arabic music workshops for Syrian and Palestinian refugee youth. April is also a teacher, composer, and owner and founder of the 10PRL arts/film/event space in Long Branch.
