Today is National Wear Red Day, an initiative launched in 2003 to raise awareness by the American Heart Association and the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute about the impact of heart disease on women. In an effort to raise awareness, members of the MCPO staff are showing our support by wearing red today.

#NationalWearRedDay was launched because heart disease was claiming the lives of nearly 500,000 women in the United States yearly, yet there was a misperception that heart disease impacted more men than women. Heart disease, however, is the No. 1 killer of women, causing 1 in 3 deaths each year. This initiative is intended to make women aware that heart health is important and to be proactive in fighting heart disease.
