Kay Harris | Award for Leadership in Historic Preservation

At the County Clerk’s 27th Annual Archives and History Day, Clerk Hanlon presented the 2022 M. Claire French Award for Leadership in Historic Preservation to Kay Harris of Asbury Park. The award was accepted by Charlie Horner on Kay Harris' behalf.

The award, named after former County Clerk M. Claire French, honors those who have made outstanding contributions to the awareness, understanding or preservation of Monmouth County’s rich history.

Kay Harris is an exceptional preservationist, educator, business leader, and community member, who has been dedicated to preserving the City of Asbury Park's history. She opened the Asbury Galleria, a store in downtown Asbury Park that preserves and showcases historical and rock & roll memorabilia from the town’s history, and has also conducted numerous oral histories and written a book chronicling her experiences growing up in the community.

Most recently, Harris founded the Asbury Park Museum in 2018, and continues to be involved in the community while serving on the Asbury Park Historical Society board and the Monmouth County Workforce Development Board.

“Asbury Park is a Monmouth County community infused with a diverse history and is beyond fortunate to have Kay Harris working to preserve that history,” said Clerk Hanlon.
