The Kitchen Garden at Covenhoven House is winding down after an incredibly dry summer! Although our bean harvest was very small, the onions did quite well. We're drying out the sunflower blossoms to store seeds for next spring and starting to plan next year's early crops as well as what we'll be planting in our brand-new cold frames. And, by way of a thank you, the garden surprised us with these beautiful pink coneflower blossoms! Elizabeth Covenhoven might well have had this perennial in her own garden, as it was a popular remedy for colds and and a blood purifier.
