Cost of college went up for all students at Brookdale Community College

In-state tuition and fees rose 9.7 percent for 2018-19 at Brookdale Community College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

New Jersey residents paid $7,963 to attend the two-year public institution this year – $702 more than the $7,261 charged for 2017-18.

Non-resident students would have paid 8.8 percent more than residents this year, or $8,663. Non-resident tuition and fees grew 9.5 percent from $7,911 in 2017-18.

About 98 percent of the school's undergraduate population are New Jersey residents. And about 1 percent are citizens of other countries.

Data shows 51 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 834 students received grants or scholarships totaling $4.8 million and 220 students took out student loans totaling more than $1.1 million.

Including all undergraduates (11,856), 3,851 students used grants or scholarships totaling $17.1 million, and 1,410 students took out $7.5 million in federal student loans.
