Sheriff Shaun Golden announced on Mar. 17 a new initiative from the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office aimed at helping residents with access and functional needs during emergencies.

The program, called the Monmouth County Emergency Vulnerability & Assistance Coordination System (E.V.A.C.S.), is designed to allow individuals or their caregivers to confidentially register information that will help first responders plan for evacuations and sheltering before disasters occur. The goal is to ensure that all residents, especially those who may need extra assistance, are considered in emergency planning.

“Ensuring the safety of all Monmouth County residents is of the utmost importance, and preparation is key,” said Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden. “The E.V.A.C.S. system allows first responders to better plan for those who may need additional help during an evacuation or disaster. I strongly encourage residents with access and functional needs, or their caregivers, to register, so we are equipped with the needed information to respond more effectively when help is needed.”

Residents can sign up for E.V.A.C.S. online through a secure portal, by mail, or by phone. All submitted information will remain confidential and accessible only to emergency management officials and first responders involved in planning and response efforts.

According to the official website, the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office promotes community safety through programs such as Crime Stoppers and educational initiatives for students according to the official website. The office also manages the Monmouth County Correctional Institution as a secure facility according to the official website, which has a capacity for 1,328 inmates according to the official website. The agency has earned recognition as New Jersey’s only five-star accredited sheriff’s office according to the official website.

Golden serves as the 76th sheriff overseeing operations focused on protecting residents and upholding public safety in Monmouth County, New Jersey according to the official website.

Residents seeking more information about E.V.A.C.S. can call 732-431-7400.
