WASHINGTON, DC – Congressman Frank Pallone, Jr. (NJ-06) released the following statement on June 1 after the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the National Institutes of Health (NIH) announced award funding to Rutgers University for a New Center for Rapid Surveillance of Tobacco:

“I am thrilled Rutgers University has received this award funding from FDA and NIH to establish the Center of Excellence in Rapid Surveillance in Tobacco.

“The rapidly evolving tobacco market means we must stay vigilant and be able to respond quickly to new public health threats. We know Big Tobacco is always looking for the next new thing to get people hooked on their products, particularly young people, and this new center will help us stay ahead of the curve with cutting-edge research and data trend analysis.

“I congratulate everyone at Rutgers who will be working hard to stand-up this new center and look forward to the important work they will be doing for years to come to help inform tobacco regulation and future policies.”
