The Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office will be conducting its final public meeting on the county’s Hazard Mitigation Plan update. The event is scheduled for Thursday, May 1, 2025, at 2:30 pm, and the public is invited to participate.
This meeting aims to present a summary of findings and offer the public a chance to comment or inquire about the draft 2026 Multi-Jurisdictional Natural Hazard Mitigation Plan for Monmouth County.
The Hazard Mitigation Plan, which is accessible via the county’s website, will remain open for public review and comment until May 15. Citizens can review the draft plan and leave feedback at the website: https://www.mcsonj.org/divisions/special-ops/emergency-management/hazard-mitigation-planning.
The 2026 plan updates the county’s 2021 plan and is collaboratively developed by county citizens. It aims to enhance disaster resistance while considering the local community’s needs and character.
The planning process has been supported by the website, which provided planning information, announced meetings, invited public commentary throughout the project, and published the draft plan for feedback.
The primary assumption of hazard mitigation planning is that investing current funds in mitigation strategies can substantially reduce future recovery and reconstruction costs. Such practices intend to facilitate quicker economic recovery after a disaster with minimal disruption.
