Sheriff Shaun Golden, Congressman Chris Smith, and the Monmouth County Board of County Commissioners have announced significant upgrades to the county’s Emergency Operations Center (EOC) in preparation for the hurricane season. These enhancements are made possible through federal funding secured by Congressman Smith.
Sheriff Shaun Golden expressed gratitude to Congressman Smith for his support, stating, “The Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office extends its deepest gratitude to Congressman Smith for his continued support of public safety initiatives in Monmouth County.” He added that the new technology would improve emergency response efficiency during an active storm season.
The upgrades include a new multi-monitor video wall for real-time situational awareness, improvements to the Flood Warning System for better decision-making during severe weather events, and tablets with advanced tracking capabilities. These devices will aid municipal reception centers and shelters in resident accountability and damage assessment documentation. Additionally, a new weather station has been installed along with phone system upgrades to manage surge calls during emergencies.
Congressman Chris Smith praised Sheriff Golden’s leadership: “The remarkable leadership and foresight of Sheriff Shaun Golden and the effectiveness of the County’s OEM which he runs has secured award-winning protection for the residents of Monmouth.” He noted that $1.2 million in federal funding is being used for these timely upgrades.
Commissioner Director Thomas A. Arnone commended both Sheriff Golden and Congressman Smith: “The Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office stands as the premier public safety agency in New Jersey, thanks to the dedication of Sheriff Shaun Golden and his staff.” He also thanked Congressman Smith for securing funding to enhance public safety infrastructure.
These changes demonstrate Monmouth County’s commitment to improving emergency preparedness and response capabilities. The partnership between local leaders ensures that residents can rely on robust systems during crises.
