If temperatures stay low, you might just have to get out your ice boat! Long Branch artist Victor Gilsey (1872 – 1947) painted “Ice Boating on the South Shrewsbury River” in about 1900. Gilsey was an avid ice boat enthusiast himself and was a member of the North Shrewsbury Ice Boat and Yacht Club in Red Bank. The City of Asbury Park will host its First Friday Art & Sound event at Press Plaza on May 1. The free gathering features live music, art demonstrations, crafts for kids, and activities for all ages.

Asbury Park Police Director John B. Hayes clarified that local officers were not involved in a recent ICE-related incident near City Hall. Hayes explained legal limits on cooperation with federal immigration authorities under state law.
