The City of Asbury Park announced on Mar. 26 that construction on First Avenue is ongoing, with final paving and project completion expected in June 2026. The work includes improvements to sidewalks, curbing, pedestrian safety features, and stormwater management along the corridor.

City officials said the project aims to calm traffic, increase pedestrian safety, and reduce flooding by absorbing additional stormwater runoff. Residents and visitors are asked to observe posted no parking signs along First Avenue so work crews can complete the project efficiently.

Mayor John Moor said, “This is the kind of work that makes the whole city better. It might be a little inconvenient while it’s happening, but when it’s done, First Avenue is going to be safer, better looking, and a lot less prone to flooding. That’s a good deal for everybody.”

City Manager Adam E. Cruz said, “This project represents a coordinated investment in First Avenue that goes beyond repaving. By combining curb and sidewalk reconstruction with bump-outs, tree pits, and stormwater improvements, we’re building a street that is safer for pedestrians, friendlier to traffic, and more resilient. I want to thank Director of Transportation James Bonanno for his leadership on this project and his continued commitment to improving how people move through Asbury Park. We appreciate the community’s patience as this work continues.”
