The City of Asbury Park is preparing for a major winter storm forecasted to impact the area from Sunday, February 22 through Monday, February 23. City officials are closely monitoring weather updates and will provide information on closures, parking changes, and adjustments to city services as conditions develop. Residents can receive real-time alerts by visiting www.cityofasburypark.com/nixle or signing up for notifications.

Meteorologists predict heavy snowfall, strong northeast winds, and possible coastal flooding during the storm. Blizzard conditions may occur along the coast with snowfall rates reaching up to two inches per hour and wind gusts potentially hitting 55 mph. The most severe weather is expected from Sunday night into Monday morning, which could affect the Monday commute. A Coastal Flood Watch has been issued for Sunday night through early Monday.

Residents are advised to avoid unnecessary travel during the height of the storm, particularly overnight Sunday into Monday morning.

To assist with snow removal operations and increase parking availability, metered parking will be suspended on both days of the storm. The city recommends that vehicles be parked off street in driveways when possible and not in flood-prone areas near Wesley Lake, Sunset Lake, or Deal Lake. Motorists should also move their vehicles away from trees and utility poles to reduce risk from falling debris.

Additional guidance includes parking on the even-numbered side of streets before and during snowfall. After plows have cleared one side of the street, drivers should move their cars to allow both sides to be fully plowed. Alternate side parking rules do not apply where signs indicate no parking during a snow emergency. More details about snow-related parking can be found at www.cityofasburypark.com/snow.

Further instructions for designated snow removal areas—especially streets still affected by previous storms—will be communicated via Nixle alerts.

Garbage collection scheduled for Monday has been canceled due to anticipated hazardous conditions. Residents are instructed not to place garbage or recycling containers in roadways but instead keep them at curbside so that plowing operations can proceed efficiently.

For continued updates throughout the storm period, residents are encouraged to sign up for Nixle alerts at www.nixle.com or by texting 07712 to 888777.
